Afroluxe Days: A Style Afrique Originial Editorial Starring Teiko Dornor
An editorial celebrating Africa, sees former plus-size model pioneer Teiko Dornor come together again with photographer Glenn Osei-Gyimah and celebrity stylist Marian Kwei (formerly Kihogo). The British Ghanaian trio have worked together before. This time they are joined by Japanese makeup artist Natsu Tomonaga.
Tomonaga’s makeup is bold (such as the green eye look) hailing the joy and colour of Africa. The wardrobe does this too with garments such as an orange tutu gown by Mishanty, vibrant metallics by Bwana Willy, Batik by Kifayath, a full Kente look employing a jumpsuit by H.M.K London and there is even an eye-catching graphic T-Shirt hailing Lagos by Soboye as inspired by Studio 54 and Africa’s 54 countries.
The editorial is shot by Glenn Osei-Gyimah (see his portfolio here) in London’s beautiful Hyde Park, model Teiko is seen standing against the backdrop of its various gardens.
The ‘afro-cosmopolitan’ mix of unapologetic structure (harem pants by Bwana Willy feature twice), a colour-filled sun-drenched palette, statement accessories such as cuffs and neckpieces sourced by stylist Marian from A.C.E Hackney, and eye-catching headpieces ensures that the woman in this editorial is regal and confident.
Teiko’s beauty shines in these photos. It is not a wonder that she is a successful former plus-size model who paved the way for models such as Precious Lee and Philomena Kwao.
The wardrobe, makeup, and photography in the photos come together to speak of the best of Africa.
