The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards has officially revealed the nominees for its much-anticipated 12th edition, with Gingerrr and The Herd emerging as frontrunners, each securing an impressive nine nominations. The announcement was broadcast live on Africa Magic channels on Sunday, March 29, 2026, and hosted by award-winning actor Chimezie Imo.

With 32 award categories—spanning 18 jury-selected accolades, 11 audience-voted honours, and three special recognition prizes—this year’s edition underscores both the industry’s expansive growth and its increasing diversity across regions and formats. The ceremony is set to take place in Lagos on Saturday, May 9, 2026.

Gingerrr, The Herd, and To Kill A Monkey led the charge in this year’s major categories, securing nominations across acting, directing, and technical fields—a testament to the exceptional storytelling that has shaped African film and television over the past year. To Kill A Monkey emerged as a standout with eight nominations, while My Father’s Shadow followed closely with seven nods across multiple categories, setting the stage for an intense and highly anticipated awards season.

The acting categories strike a compelling balance between seasoned excellence and rising talent. Nollywood icon Sola Sobowale leads the pack with nominations in both lead and supporting roles, a feat mirrored by Uzor Arukwe and Lateef Adedimeji. Meanwhile, Genoveva Umeh marks a significant career milestone with her first-ever Best Lead Actress nomination, firmly positioning her as one to watch as anticipation builds toward the May 9 ceremony.

Sponsored by Don Julio, the AMVCA continues to extend its continental footprint, now featuring categories dedicated to indigenous-language films from across West, East, North, and Central Africa.
