Africa Magic calls for entries for the 12th AMVCA
Africa’s most celebrated film and television awards — the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) — has officially opened submissions for its 12th edition, inviting filmmakers, actors, and content creators from every corner of the continent to enter their work. This annual moment has become more than a ceremony; it’s a cultural milestone for storytelling, identity, and artistic recognition.

Entries are open now through February 15, 2026, and will spotlight works produced or publicly screened between January 1 and December 31, 2025.
For twelve years, the AMVCA has championed African narratives, lifting voices that often go unheard on global screens. What started as a celebration of excellence has evolved into a career-shaping platform — one that launches directors, actors, writers, and technical creatives into new opportunities.
This year’s awards feature 32 categories, including:
- 18 jury-decided categories judged by industry experts
- 11 audience-voted awards giving fans influence
- Lifetime Achievement prizes
- The inspiring Trailblazer Award, spotlighting emerging talent
The 12th AMVCA underscores its commitment to Pan-African diversity by expanding its Indigenous Language categories. For the first time, awards will include:
- Best Indigenous Language – North Africa
- Best Indigenous Language – Central Africa
These additions amplify voices from regions that have often lacked specific representation in mainstream awards, joining categories already recognising Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, and Swahili storytelling.
The AMVCA’s influence stretches beyond its gala night. It fuels conversations within film communities, ignites partnerships, elevates fashion and design, and puts African artistry on the global map. The event — often likened to the “African Oscars” — has become a cultural beacon, shaping how African creativity is seen, valued, and exported.
This year, the awards take place in May 2026 in Lagos, Nigeria, a city whose film and fashion scenes are increasingly defining continental trends.
The submission process is fully online via the official AMVCA portal. With its expanded categories and renewed push for inclusivity, the 12th edition promises to be the most representative and exciting yet.
