After establishing a strong online presence, your flagship store creates an immersive brand experience. How does this physical space embody the soul of Neesa Atelier?

Just like the clothing, the store was refurbished by local artisans, a continuation of Ghanaian creativity. The store exudes Afrochic luxury in a unique way. The use of straw, hand made pots and weathered wood tie in the aesthetic that resonate with our Ghanaian made and Ghanaian owned fashion label.

The transition from online-only to opening a physical store is significant. What motivated this decision to establish a flagship store?

We lost too many opportunities to make a sale resulting from consumer hesitance in dealing with a new brand and an online store. Trust was fast becoming a huge obstacle. People also wanted to try on the pieces to see and feel how it falls on their bodies. Having to journey to the atelier (workshop) was fast becoming a deterrent. For these reasons, we invested in a physical space.

The Ghanaian luxury market is evolving rapidly. What unique perspective does Neesa Atelier bring to this space, and how do you define luxury in an African context?

For us luxury is in the quality of fabric, the quality of craftsmanship, the versatility of design range and the quality of service.

Could you share a moment or experience that crystallized your vision for Neesa Atelier? What makes this vision particularly relevant now?

Ghanaian fashion is fast evolving and becoming more accommodating of a wider range of design direction. Pulling inspiration from across the globe, we at Neesa Atelier are able to contribute to aesthetics that fuse local and international trends. While the fashion industry is large in Ghana, the framework of designers who cater to this angle are few. We are therefore adding to the limited options for high end fashion.

Who is the Neesa Atelier customer, and how has your understanding of them evolved since launching online?

Our customer is a corporate executive, who has an active social life. She is a globe trotter who wants to represent her country/continent in her appearance without compromising quality. This is the story of the majority of our clientele.

What has surprised you most about your customers’ relationship with the brand since launching?

The unwavering support even through the teething pains. The thirst for more options and a broader variety. Requests to venture into men’s clothing.

Looking at African fashion’s growing global influence, how do you see Neesa Atelier contributing to this conversation?

Neesa Atelier is opening up luxury afro-fusion fashion to the broader middle income earning bracket. Clothing that can accommodate all sizes and present a wider price range for a wider consumer base. While we are a ready to wear label, we do not mass produce. This fosters a sense of exclusivity among our patrons which they love.

The fashion industry can be notoriously challenging for new brands. What principles guide your business decisions as you scale?

We research as much as possible to avoid the incidence of uncertainty. With reduced uncertainty, we are able to take calculated risks. Once we have the data and feedback from our clientele, we modify our approach to serve them better.

Where do you envision Neesa Atelier in the coming years?

We hope to be a household name in Ghanaian fashion. We hope to penetrate the international markets with our Kentes and Batiks and Fugus and African print to celebrate what is Ghanaian in a versatile way that resonates with the international markets.
