“Tun Tum” Takes the Stage: Audience Thrilled by Captivating Premiere
An exclusive screening of “Tun Tum” took place at Accra’s Silverbird Cinemas, hosted by acclaimed Ghanaian filmmaker Socrates Safo and animator Michael Tettey Narh.
Premiering in tandem with the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), the film has garnered widespread praise for its originality while also fielding some criticism for its premise.
An animated film called “Tun Tum” tells the story of man’s creation from an African point of view and runs for 34 minutes.
Ghanaian filmmaker Socrate Safo and his collaborator Michael Tettey Narh have received high praise for their most recent work from prominent figures in Ghana’s creative community.
Fiifi Coleman, a well-known actor, was present at Friday’s premiere to see the film. “I am completely sold on this movie. That’s creative work. Someone had an idea for this and pieced it together to form a narrative”. According to him, they recounted their tale in the way they wished.
Ghanaian Pan-African Poet Nana Asaase and another film industry heavyweight, George Bossompem, both offered complimentary remarks and profuse praise for the “Tun Tum” film.
In her opinion, it is fair to us Ghanaians, Nana Asaase stated. Think about Tema—the self-proclaimed “Centre of the World”—it all points to. Travel to Ghana; that’s a selling point for the country.
This piece beautifully captures the essence of Africa, our diasporas, and the Renaissance call—a call for us to return home and tell our story. The story, written by one of our own, is lovely. Also, the next generation should hear this tale and be shown the ropes.
It is important to us to share our side of the story. If we want to tell our story, this is a good first step. Personally, I call that “Tun Tum.”
Presenters Gifty Mawuena Sossavi and Kwab Asamoah, a Ghanaian-American fashion designer, were among those who lauded the film’s premise.
There has been no commercial release of the film as of yet.
