Africa Fashion Week Nigeria (AFWN) is pleased to announce the JRandle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History in Onikan, Lagos, as the official venue for its upcoming 2025 edition. The highly anticipated Detty December Edition of AFWN will be staged at the Centre on December 20–21, bringing African fashion into dialogue with heritage, art and performance in one of Lagos’s most important cultural spaces.

The JRandle Centre, formally inaugurated in October 2024 after a major redevelopment, is a landmark institution dedicated to celebrating and preserving Yoruba culture. Originally built in 1928 around a public swimming pool funded by philanthropist Dr. John K. Randle, the site has been transformed into a state-of-the-art cultural hub featuring interactive exhibitions, a 1,000-square-metre gallery, a public square, an outdoor theatre, performance spaces, and landscaped grounds. It presents Yoruba heritage not as a relic, but as a living, evolving story told through music, dance, art, masquerade traditions, and digital installations. Its architectural design and immersive experiences make it a fitting backdrop for AFWN’s vision of fashion as cultural expression.

Speaking on the venue announcement, Queen Aderonke Ademiluyi Ogunwusi, Founder and Executive Director of AFWN, said:

To celebrate African design without severing it from its roots, the space we choose matters as much as the designs themselves. Naming the JRandle Centre as our home for the Detty December Edition allows us to weave fashion directly into heritage; showing that what we wear, how we create, and where we gather are all facets of our culture. This venue enables us to stage events that are stylish and contemporary, while remaining distinctly Lagosian and authentically African.

Queen Aderonke Ademiluyi Ogunwusi.

The Detty December Edition is shaping up to be more than a fashion week; it is envisioned as a two-day festival that blends runway shows, curated exhibitions, designer pop-ups, cultural activations, live music, nightlife experiences, and conversations around sustainable design and the business of fashion. By hosting the event at the JRandle Centre, AFWN underscores its mission to situate fashion within the broader context of African identity, commerce and creativity.
