Acclaimed South African fashion designer Sindiso Khumalo has reached a new milestone in her career with the opening of her first flagship store in Cape Town. Known for her sustainable approach to fashion and deeply Afrocentric storytelling, Khumalo brings her bold aesthetic and eco-conscious ethos to a permanent retail space that celebrates African heritage and modern design.
Located in the lively Longkloof precinct, the flagship store offers customers an immersive experience into Khumalo’s world of fashion. The space embodies her signature style — minimalist silhouettes adorned with striking prints inspired by African history, culture, and craft. Every detail, from the store’s interiors to the way the collections are displayed, reflects her commitment to sustainability and her vision of using fashion as a powerful storytelling tool.
Khumalo, a multi-award-winning designer and finalist of the LVMH Prize, has long been recognised internationally for her innovative work with organic textiles and handcraft techniques. Her work has graced runways at Milan Fashion Week and appeared in collaborations with & Other Stories, IKEA and Vans. Her collections often spotlight narratives of African women, weaving history and heritage into contemporary fashion. With the launch of the flagship store, she now creates a physical hub for her brand, allowing customers to connect more intimately with her designs.
Speaking on the opening, Khumalo expressed that the store is more than just a retail outlet — it is a cultural space that celebrates African design and sustainability. “I really wanted the space to tell a story of South African art and design”.
The flagship will feature her ready-to-wear collections, accessories, and limited-edition pieces, as well as collaborations with artisans across the continent. True to Khumalo’s ethos, the space prioritises eco-friendly practices, with interiors designed from locally sourced and recycled materials.
“I wanted every aspect of the space to be reflective of the work we do at SindisoKhumalo. We’ve always worked with waste in a way that reimagines it as something beautiful, and I wanted that to be part of the store too.”
