Funke Akindele’s blockbuster, “A Tribe Called Judah”, has broken the box office record as the first Nollywood film to gross N1 billion.

The renowned Nollywood actress and producer announced this milestone on her Instagram page, unveiling a flyer that highlighted the impressive billion-naira achievement.

Released in December 2023, “A Tribe Called Judah” unfolds as a poignant yet humor-laced drama, chronicling the journey of a single mother and her five sons. Confronted by financial adversity, they concoct a daring scheme to rob a mall. However, their carefully laid plans veer into uncharted territory when they cross paths with an unforeseen group of robbers already in action.

The film stars Funke Akindele, Timini Egbuson, Jide Kene Achufusi, Uzee Usman, Tobi Makinde, Olumide Oworu, Genoveva Umeh, Nse Ikpe Etim, Juliana Olayode, Uzor Arukwe, Fathia Balogun, Yvonne Jegede and many others.

The film, directed by Funke Akindele herself and co-produced by Funke Akindele and Adeoluwa Owu, has been praised for its strong performances, captivating story, and humorous touches. This feat has surpassed  Akindele’s previous films ‘Battle on Buka Street’ (N668.4m), and ’ Omo Ghetto’ (N636.1m) which currently sit as the second and third highest-grossing films at the Nigerian box office respectively.
