Virgil Abloh nominated for CFDA Fashion Awards 2017
The Council of Fashion Designers of America, Inc. (CFDA) will be honouring designers and members of the fashion community at the CDFA Fashion Awards 2017 slated for June 5, 2017.
Among the list of nominees is Virgil Abloh who has been nominated for the Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent.
Virgil Abloh is an American based Ghanaian creative designer and the founder of the fashion label Off-White. Abloh’s parents are from Ghana. He was raised in Chicago. Abloh was the art director for the 2012 Jay-Z / Kanye West album – “Watch the Throne”, for which he was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Recording Package.
Abloh founded the street wear label Pyrex Vision in Chicago before shutting it down after just a year. He then launched the Milan-based fashion label Off-White in 2014 offering high-end men’s and women’s collections.
His ‘Off-White’ collection has been patronized by famous celebrities like Kanye West, Rita Ora, Kim Kardashian, ASAP Rocky and great fashion icons. And also his designs have been used by other prestigious fashion brands like Supreme.
Virgil Abloh, will also present his Spring/Summer 2018 menswear collection at Pitti Uomo in Florence, Italy on June 15th, 2017. The announcement sees Abloh join the likes of J. W. Anderson, Raf Simons, Gosha Rubchinskiy and Tim Coppens in a list of acclaimed guest designers who have showcased their collections at Pitti Uomo.
Abloh’s designs has sold over 220 stockists, including Selfridges, Barneys New York and Net-a-Porter.
