As we count down to the 2025 edition of Africa Fashion Week Nigeria, the energy across Lagos’ creative community continues to rise. This year marks one of the most exciting lineups yet, uniting emerging designers, cultural advocates, and influential voices shaping the future of African creativity.
Designer Spotlight: Shaykara Brand (Nigeria)
Lagos continues to birth some of Africa’s most compelling fashion voices, and Shaykara Brand is one to watch out for.
Rooted in ethical principles and inspired by African heritage, Shaykara is redefining slow fashion through thoughtful craftsmanship, circularity, and a zero-waste design philosophy. The brand creatively reimagines African textiles by merging cultural references with modern silhouettes.
Their work has also made an impact beyond Nigeria’s borders, including recognition at the London Fashion Film Festival through their documentary “Worn & Reborn”, which explored the beauty of sustainable luxury from an African perspective.
This December, guests will witness firsthand how Shaykara uses fashion as a bridge between heritage, contemporary design, and environmental consciousness, an ethos perfectly aligned with AFWN’s mission.
Runway Personality: Meyiwa Vera
Joining the runway this year is Meyiwa Vera, a health influencer and social impact content creator whose voice resonates deeply across digital communities.
Known for her heartfelt storytelling, handwritten placards, humor, and empathetic approach, Vera uses her platform to raise awareness about sickle-cell, genotype education, and health advocacy.
Having her walk the runway celebrates more than fashion, it highlights AFWN’s commitment to championing influential Africans who are driving change, and using creativity to make social impact more visible.
Experience Highlight: The AFWN Exhibition Marketplace
Beyond the runway, AFWN 2025 expands into a full cultural festival and one experience to look forward to this December is the Exhibition Marketplace.
Here, attendees can explore and shop a curated range of fashion, beauty, lifestyle, and handcrafted brands from across Africa. From statement accessories to artisanal pieces you won’t find anywhere else.
It’s the perfect space to wander, discover new pieces, connect and support homegrown businesses.
