This year’s AMVCA not only celebrates excellence in storytelling but also sets the stage for the next wave of creative voices in African cinema.

Submissions were open to productions released or broadcast between December 1, 2023, and December 31, 2024, following an entry window that commenced in December 2024. The 2025 AMVCA now celebrates excellence across 27 dynamic categories, featuring a mix of audience-voted awards and juried honors, including the prestigious Lifetime Achievement and Trailblazer awards.

The awards feature a total of 27 categories, comprising 18 non-voting and 9 audience voting categories. In addition, there are two special recognition awards: the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Trailblazer Award. The non-voting categories will be determined by the AMVCA panel of judges, chaired by renowned filmmaker and head judge, Femi Odugbemi.

The nominees for Best Movie include Lisabi: The Uprising, Skeleton Coast, Suspicion, Inkabi, House of Ga’a, Freedom Way, Christmas in Lagos, and Farmer’s Bride.

The Best Lead Actor nominees include Gideon Okeke (Tokunbo), Bucci Franklin (The Weekend), Femi Branch (House of Ga’a), Thapelo Makoena (Skeleton Coast), Bimbo Manuel (Princess On A Hill), Stan Nze (Suspicion), Femi Adebayo (Seven Doors) and Adedimeji Lateef (Lisabi – The Uprising).
