Touted as “Accra’s premier hip-hop celebration,” the event seeks to unite diverse cultures through a shared passion for music, art, and creative expression.

HipHop Africa Fest is an initiative by HipHop Africa, a media company founded in 2015 to celebrate and promote urban African rap music and entertainment culture.

Kwesi Arthur rose to prominence in 2017 with his breakout single “Grind Day,” which gained even more traction after a remix featuring Sarkodie and Medikal. His momentum continued with the release of “Live from Nkrumah Krom” in 2017, followed by “Live from Nkrumah Krom Vol. II” in 2019. In 2022, he launched his album “Son of Jacob” and has put out several notable mixtapes, including the “This Is Not The Tape” series. Arthur has collaborated with leading artists across Africa, earning multiple accolades along the way. He won Hip Hop Song of the Year at the 2018 Ghana Music Awards and received International Collaboration of the Year in 2021. Additionally, he has garnered numerous nominations, including for Hiplife/Hip Hop Artiste of the Year in both 2018 and 2021. In 2018, he was also nominated for Best International Act at the BET Awards.

PsychoYP, a key figure in the Apex Village collective, rose to fame with his 2018 mixtape “YPSZN” and its sequel, “YPSZN2”. Recognized for his unique fusion of Afrobeats, hip hop, trap, and R&B, he has released multiple collaborative EPs as well as his debut solo EP, “Euphoria” (2021). Over the course of his career, PsychoYP has collaborated with a diverse range of artists across various genres, showcasing his versatility and dynamic style.

“We are thrilled to launch HipHop Africa Fest 2024 as a platform that celebrates and empowers African hip hop talent,” said HipHop Africa founder Muumba. “This festival is about building a community that honours African artists and provides them with an arena to connect with fans and fellow creatives in the truest sense of the genre.”

HipHop Africa Fest 2024 will feature live performances, exclusive pop-up events spotlighting streetwear designers and cultural innovators, and youth-focused engagement activities. The event will bring together communities from fashion, skateboarding, art, and more to celebrate creativity and unity.

Organizers have described the event as “a transformative journey,” providing attendees with a comprehensive festival that embodies the authentic, unfiltered spirit of hip hop.
