Streaming giant Prime Video is set to make its mark on the South African film industry with the release of its first original film, “The Shakedown.” This Cape Town-based crime caper comedy is set to hit screens on August 8th, promising a blend of humor, suspense, and local flavour.

Set against the stunning backdrop of the Mother City, “The Shakedown” follows the story of a seemingly respectable medical aid broker who finds himself entangled in the Cape Town underworld after his mistress threatens to expose their affair. This unexpected turn of events leads him into the dangerous underworld of Cape Town, where he must navigate a series of comic mishaps and mistaken identities to maintain his carefully crafted image.

Directed and co-written by Ari Kruger, known for his work on the hit web series “Suzelle DIY” and the multi-award-winning “Tali’s Diary” series for Showmax, “The Shakedown” stars Carl Beukes (“Dominion,” “Lioness”), Emmanuel Castis (“Warrior,” “G20”) and Julia Anastasopoulos (“Tali’s Diary,” “Suzelle DIY”). Other cast members include Milton Schorr (“Warrior,” “One Piece”), James Borthwick (“Hotel”), David Isaacs (“Joe Barber,” “Spinners”), South African rapper Jack Parow and rising talent Berenice Barbier.
