Ghanaian Fashion Design House Duaba Serwa Debuts All-New Womenswear Collection, Origami Textures
Duaba Serwa, the Ghanaian womenswear powerhouse known for innovative designs, textures, and structured detail, announced today an all-new collection of 38 versatile must-own pieces that effortlessly combine contemporary with traditional design. The new collection, Origami Textures, draws inspiration from the Japanese translation of the words “oru” and “kami”, meaning to fold paper.
An elevated continuation of the brand’s growing triangular pleated aesthetic, which has been spotted during whimsical red carpet moments for celebrities like Lupita Nyongo and Jackie Appiah, Duaba Serwa’s Origami Textures collection offers an array of 38 looks ranging from jumpsuits, bodysuits, and separates designed to fit the customers’ body with precision, structural magnificence and a clear point of distinction.
“It is an honor to bring such intricately handmade pieces that capture the artistry, elegance and functionality to our customers,” said Nelly Hagan, Lead Designer and Founder of Duaba Serwa. “Through this collection, we hope to continue to innovate with our garments and construct luxurious style lines that cater to the woman who prefers the understated rather than flamboyant extravagance.”
The Origami Textures collection pays homage to the art of paper folding, which was popularized in Japan and practiced by Monks who brought paper and the ideas for folding it from China in the 6th century. The brand’s use of this cultural reference is reflected in the intricacy of the clothing shapes and designs, heavily relying on sharp lines and playing on the mechanics of folding fabric weights that resemble paper onto the brand’s signature triangular pleats.
Founded in 2011, Duaba Serwa has dressed the likes of Hollywood names such as Academy Award-winning actress Lupita Nyongo, Eva Omaghomi, Director of Community Engagement to King Charles III and Queen Camilla and featured on the cover of Vanity Fair’s Annual Hollywood issue with Michaela Coel.
The fashion brand has also graced the runway at Alta Roma Alta Moda, Portugal Fashion week S/S’ 2023 and continues to cater to its clientele with distinct style and colour selections that honour the African renaissance and unique garment dyeing techniques.
