From a celeb-filled party to bold-colour collections – 5 highlights from SA Fashion Week
The 2022 Autumn/Winter SA Fashion Week was a 3-day spectacle. The prestigious fashion event kicked off with a star-studded party in Johannesburg. The best of the best designers came together to showcase and celebrate South African’s fashion royalty.
1. Star-studded pre-party
Hosted by the Cruz Black Vintage Vodka, South African Fashion Week kicked off with a pre-party in Sandton, and saw performances by Nomfundo Moh and Sun El musician, while DJ Enzo and Lerato Kganyago rocked the decks.
The affair also boasted attendances by some of SA’s entertainment favourites such as Anele Zondo, Nadia Nakai, AKA, Siphesihle Ndaba, Kim Jayde, Tansey Coetzee, Nefisa Mkhabela, Khaya Dladla, Lesego Tlhabi AKA Coconut Kelz, Chris Jaftha and Ayanda MVP. Reality stars Annie Mthembu and Mpho Wabadimo were also spotted at the celebration.
2. Fikile Zamagcino Sokhulu’s collection
Of the day 27 designers who launched their Autumn/Winter 2023 collections, the first day saw Fikile Zamagcino Sokhulu’s collection receive praise for her line that is described as a feminine and organic aesthetic that appeal to an ageless contemporary market.
3. The BAM Collective’s striking designs
On the second day of the showcase, The BAM Collective wowed with their visually striking designs that are always paired with a headpiece – even from previous collections. Their designs play with structures, shapes and layers and aim to explore the commercial and conceptual boundaries that clothes hold.
4. Loxion Kulca brings live music to the runway
On the third and final day of SA Fashion Week was the day of fashion legends – it boasted showcases by MaXhosa, Loxion Kulca as well as Ephymol, to name a few. During their showcase Loxion Kulca also brought out artist Phantom Steeze to perform, giving audiences way more than they bargained for at the fashion show.
Being the eventful day of the whole week, day three also saw menswear label Refuse Clothing being crowned the winner of the Scouting Menswear 2022 Competition.
5. VanKlan’s unique take on trends
However, the best of the day’s shows was the VanKlan showcase, which consisted of bold colours, an eccentric and playful aesthetic as well as a unique take on trendy fashion.
