Tiwa Savage is the first Afrobeats star to sing at a coronation concert. She is also the first African to sing at said event. On Sunday May 7th 2023, Savage performed for King Charles III and Queen Camilla, other royals, dignitaries and the general public at the King Charles III coronation 2023 concert. Streamed online, the event held at Windsor Castle, also saw singers such as Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, Andrea Bocelli perform for the newly crowned King.

Tiwa sang ‘Keys To The Kingdom’, a song she recorded with Mr Eazi that featured on Beyonce’s album ‘The Lion King’. For this performance she wore a bespoke dazzling green gown with a corseted bodice and off-the-shoulder straps by Lanre Da Silva Ajayi. The eponymously named Nigerian fashion house as helmed by Lanre Da Silva Ajayi is known for being a pioneer in the Nigerian and African fashion industry. She was one of the first African high fashion brands to be founded and gain renown. Tiwa’s choice to wear green for this performance is a possible nod to her Nigerian heritage, with the flag of Nigeria being green and white.

Her look was styled by London’s ‘Shaped Services’ who paired the Lanre Da Silva Ajayi gown with green Christian Louboutin pump heels and jewellery (a crucifix and two chain necklaces) by Joseph Frost of London. ‘Shaped Services’ are a London based fashion concierge specialising in bespoke services. Tiwa has used their service several times and more recently they styled her ‘Gbese’ music video.

Tiwa has made history with this coronation concert performance. She goes down in history as the first of Afrobeats and African singers to perform at a coronation concert.
