KAHINDO is an ethical fashion brand based in New York that is inspired by its Congolese founder’s heritage. It employs one off prints with dynamic colour palettes that are an interpretation of Africa’s traditional wear and inspired by the continent’s rich heritage and culture. The fashion house celebrates the legacy and beauty of Africa.

Founded and designed by Kahindo Mateene who is from Congo, she was born in Uganda and has lived in Nigeria, Niger, Kenya and Ethiopia. She graduated from the Illinois Institute of Chicago in Art and creates the prints that she uses for her garments. She designs to empower women who she seeks to express themselves through her wearable luxury. She designs so women can express their individuality expressing their unique style boldly and wear their fashion proudly.

She also seeks to empower the female artisans who make her clothing. She is quoted as saying “For me, fashion is only as beautiful as the way I treat the female artisans and workers who help me create my line. That means focusing on sustainability and ethical work environments for my global partners, and using the KAHINDO brand as a vehicle to create equity and job opportunities for women. Together, we share the heart and soul of Africa with the rest of the world through fashion.”
