Africa Fashion Week is set to take place this week. The event from 30th June to July 2010 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The event will feature 30 designers from Mozambique, French Commodores, Botswana, Ghana, Nigeria, Somalia, Tunisia, Uganda, South Africa, United States and the UK.

Some of the designers due to show trans seasonal collections include South Africa’s Kluk CGDT, Abigail Betz, Marianne Fassier,Stoned Cherrie, David Tlale, Boudoir D’Huitres by Mimi Plange who is a designer of Ghanaian descent based in California, Nigeria’s Deola Sagoe, Bunmi Koko, Ituen Basi, Uganda’s Gloria Wavamunno, Mataano by Somalian twin sisters Ayaan and Idyl Mohallim etc.

The opening show will be acclaimed Paris based label, Xuly Bët as designed by award winning Malian designer, Lamine Badian Kouyaté. The label was awarded with the Creator of the Year award by the New York Times in 1994. It also was awarded the prestigious the ANDAM award in 1996. Kouyaté have been worn by the likes of Lauryn Hill and Grace Jones.
