The Miss Texas pageant witnessed a historic moment on Saturday, June 29th, 2024, as Annette Addo-Yobo, a Ghanaian-born beauty competing as Miss Southlake, was crowned Miss Texas 2024. This win marks a significant milestone, making Addo-Yobo the first contestant of Ghanaian descent to claim the coveted title.

In an Instagram post, Addo-Yobo expressed her gratitude for being crowned the 85th Miss Texas. She also expressed her commitment to making a positive impact within the Texas Community and among her fellow Miss Texas contestants.

My name is Annette Addo-Yobo, and I am humbled, honored, and grateful to serve as your 87th Miss Texas! I made history last night as the first immigrant-born and first Ghanaian Miss Texas, and I hope to continue making history with the Texas community and the Miss Texas class.

Congratulations to our remaining Top 12 and the Miss Texas Class of 2024 for all that you accomplished at this competition and during your year of service. I can’t wait to serve each and every one of you this year. Our communities and this state are better because of each of you.

Annette Addo-Yobo

Addo-Yobo was born in Ghana but was raised in Canada and the U.S. She studied at the University of Texas at Dallas and in 2020 earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology.

By winning the Miss Texas 2024 competition, Addo-Yobo will receive $20,000 in scholarship money and will represent Texas in the Miss America contest.

Annette competed as Miss Southlake after being previously crowned Miss Dallas in 2023. She impressed the judges with her talent, a powerful spoken word performance that shed light on autism awareness, a cause close to her heart as her brother is on the autism spectrum. Her intelligence, confidence, and dedication to social impact undoubtedly played a role in her historic win.

As a sibling to someone on the spectrum, I noticed the systemic inequities and lack of education and training very early. It is my mission to amplify the voices of the autistic community and ensure that legislators, decision makers, and community members see us and fight for us.
