Culture ministers and experts from across Africa will gather in the Kenyan capital Nairobi for a key meeting starting Tuesday, local media has reported.
The ministerial meeting, the first in 12 years, will discuss the proposed African Academy of Languages and the Year of African Languages (2006), according to the Daily Nation, one of the leading newspapers in Kenya.
Another important agenda of the talks is to update the Cultural Charter for Africa, the report said, adding that the meeting will prepare discussion documents for the African Union’s Heads of State and Government Summit, which is to be held in Sudan next month.
More than 350 participants, including scholars and other experts, are expected at the talks, whose theme is set as Culture, Integration and African Renaissance.
